As many of you are aware, Tom Clauser has stepped down as county compilerafter years of dedicated and well appreciated service to the birdingcommunity. SWEET ARROW LAKE: (dd)
Birds from 10/24 thru 10/30 included Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher,
Eastern Screech-Owl, Dark-eyed Junco, White-throated Sparrow, Red-
breasted Nuthatch, Fish Crow, Red-tailed Hawk, Carolina Wren, Pileated
Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and Downy Woodpecker.

TUMBLING RUN WATERSHED: (tc)
Birds on 10/31 included PIED-BILLED GREBE, Brown Creeper, Eastern
Screech-Owl, 8 HERMIT THRUSHES, 2 White-breasted Nuthatches,
WINTER WREN, 12 Black-capped Chickadees, 2 Northern Cardinals,
Downy Woodpecker, 2 Carolina Wrens, Dark-eyed Juncos, White-
throated Sparrows, 12 Turkey Vultures, and SPRING PEEPERS.

SCHWARTZ VALLEY ROAD: (sw)
A small flock of Purple Finches have been visiting a feeder the past few
days.

HIDDEN VALLEY BANDING STATION: (sw)
There were 20 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS banded on 10/22, being
the best one night total in three years. There were 7 more on 10/25, 11
on 10/27, 10 on 1/28, and 1 on 10/30. The overall total is now at 85 birds.

AUBURN - DEERVIEW ROAD: (jp)
Birds reported for the week include Eastern Bluebirds, American Robins,
American Crows, Wild Turkeys, 2 Red-tailed Hawks, Dark-eyed Juncos,
and Blue Jays.

SUMMIT STATION AREA: (ds,ss)
On 10/24 there were about 6 PINE SISKINS at a feeder. Other birds
included 30 American Goldfinches, female Purple Finch, Field Sparrow,
Chipping Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, White-breasted Nuthatch,
Tufted Titmouse, Northern Cardinal, Hairy Woodpecker, Red-bellied
Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Cedar Waxwing, Eastern Bluebird,
Dark-eyed Junco, Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Brown-headed Cowbird,
and American Robin.

DREHERSVILLE ROAD: (cl)
A beautiful Red-tailed Hawk has been in the area, as well as Eastern
Bluebirds, White-breasted Nuthatches, Northern Cardinals, and
American Goldfinches.

RINGTOWN: (mg)
Birds for the week include American Kestrel, Cooper's Hawk, Red-tailed
Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Wild Turkey, Ruffed Grouse, White-throated
Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, House Sparrow, Song Sparrow,
White-breasted Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker,
Cedar Waxwing, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, American Crow, Dark-
eyed Junco, Black-capped Chickadee, American Goldfinch, Tufted
Titmouse, Canada Goose, Mallard, European Starling, Mourning Dove,
and Rock Pigeon.

HAWK MOUNTAIN SANCTUARY: (db,staff/vols)
Non-raptor migrants for the previous week included a very late
NORTHERN PARULA on 10/24. Large flocks of Common Grackles and
Red-winged Blackbirds were passing through last Saturday and Sunday.
On 10/23 there were 4 TUNDRA SWANS and 144 SNOW GEESE.
On 10/26 the 2nd NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported. A GOLDEN
EAGLE was seen on both 10/26 and 10/31, and 3 BALD EAGLES
were also reported on 10/31. A MERLIN was seen on both 10/27 and
10/31. Totals for the 2004 count include 12 Black Vultures, 145 Turkey
Vultures, 2 NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, 2809 Sharp-shinned Hawks,
489 Cooper's Hawks, 955 Red-tailed Hawks, 137 Red-shouldered Hawks,
6387 Broad-winged Hawks, 3 Rough-legged Hawks, 18 GOLDEN
EAGLES, 161 BALD EAGLES, 127 Northern Harriers, 666 Ospreys,
41 Peregrine Falcons, 96 MERLINS, and 358 American Kestrels. The
overall total is currently at 12,533 raptors.
