Comments: Schuylkill County has reported 195 species for 2004,
as well as Lawrence's hybrid warbler. Species of note include an
unusually high number of Black-billed Cuckoo reports, as well as
an unusually low number of Rose-breasted Grosbeak reports.

Birds for the week include Northern Flicker, Common Yellowthroat,

Red-tailed Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, American Kestrel, Wild Turkey,
Brown Thrasher, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, Eastern Bluebird,
Cedar Waxwing, Canada Goose, Mallard, American Goldfinch, Ruby-
throated Hummingbird, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, House Finch,
Song Sparrow, American Robin, and Chipping Sparrow.

Birds on 6/21 included Black-billed Cuckoo, Veery, Wood Thrush, Blue-
winged Warbler, Great Crested Flycatcher, Scarlet Tanager, House Wren,
Baltimore Oriole, Song Sparrow, Common Yellowthroat, Eastern Towhee,
Chimney Swift, Red-eyed Vireo, Black-capped Chickadee, and Ovenbird.

WEISHAMPLE: (rb)
On 6/23 birds included Red-eyed Vireo, Eastern Towhee, Yellow Warbler,
Common Grackle, Barn Swallow, Ovenbird, American Robin, Northern
Cardinal, Tufted Titmouse, American Crow, Turkey Vulture, Common
Yellowthroat, and Pileated Woodpecker.

LUTZ VALLEY ROAD & AMOS MOYER FARM: (bc,cc)
Birds reported from locations in and around this area of Wayne Township
from 6/21 thru 6/22 included 2 Willow Flycatchers, 2 Yellow Warblers,
Common Yellowthroat,, 2 House Wrens, Red-winged Blackbirds, Chipping Sparrow, Northern Mockingbird, American Crows, 2 Turkey
Vultures, 4 Gray Catbirds, Mourning Dove, Black-billed Cuckoo, Downy
Woodpeckers with young, fledgling Red-winged Blackbird, and Common
Grackle feeding suet to a fledgling.
Birds reported from MILLER'S ROAD on 6/20 in this general area include
Mourning Doves, Northern Cardinal, Barn Swallows, American Robins,
2 Northern Mockingbirds, Gray Catbird, Eastern Bluebird, and a nice
Savannah Sparrow.

DEERVIEW ROAD - AUBURN: (jp)
On 6/21 there were a least 5 pair of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, as well
as Brown-headed Cowbirds, Baltimore Oriole, Indigo Buntings, at least 8
Tree Swallows, at least 6 Wild Turkeys, Red-tailed Hawk, Sharp-shinned
Hawk, American Crows, Eastern Bluebirds with fledglings, several
Northern Flickers, Northern Mockingbird, European Stalings, Great Horned Owl, 13 Wild Turkey poults, Purple Finch, and American Goldfinches.

LAKE WYNONAH: (dkl)
On 6/22 there was a Great Crested Flycatcher reported from this area.

LEWISTOWN VALLEY: (sw)
Birds on 6/27 in the Mountain Road area include Great Horned Owl,
Wood Thrush, Barn Swallow, Red-tailed Hawk, Wild Turkey, Northern
Mockingbird, Wild Turkey, Gray Catbird, Common Grackle, Chipping
Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Black-capped Chickadee, House Sparrow,
Killdeer, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Northern Flicker, American Robin,
and Downy Woodpecker.

COAL MOUNTAIN ROAD: (cl)
This location near Deer Lake reported lots of Ruby-throated Humming-
birds, Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Bluebirds, Gray Catbird, and Red-tailed
Hawk this week.

ADAMSDALE: (vc)
Birds for the week include Cedar Waxwing, Eastern Bluebird, Ruby-
throated Hummingbird, American Goldfinch, Barn Swallow, Tree Swallow,
Chimney Swift, Belted Kingfisher, Yellow Warbler, House Wren, Common
Yellowthroat, Northern Mockingbird, and Killdeer.

SUEDBERG AREA: (ks)
Birds reported from this location include nesting Northern Cardinals,
fledgling wrens, nesting Eastern Phoebes, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds,
Mallard with 7 young, Great Blue Heron, Ruffed Grouse, drumming
unidentified woodpecker, and a belated American Bittern. report.

WEST PENN TWP. - CLAMTOWN: (bb)
Birds for the week include 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, 2 Red-bellied Wood-
peckers, Tufted Titmice with young, numerous Ruby-throated Humming-
birds, Veeries, Ovenbirds, Scarlet Tanagers, Wood Thrushes, Red-eyed
Vireos, American Goldfinches, American Robins, White-breasted Nut-
hatches, Red-tailed Hawks, Eastern Bluebirds, 2 House Finches, Barn
Swallows, Tree Swallows, Blue Jays, Chimney Swifts, Red-winged Black-
birds, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Ring-necked Pheasant, Ruffed Grouse,
and 3 Purple Finches.

UPPER MAHANTONGO & ELDRED TWPS: (mw)
On 6/24 birds included 2 Vesper Sparrows, Grasshopper Sparrow, Worm-
eating Warbler, 2 Eastern Meadowlarks, Nashville Warbler, 2 Brown
Thrashers, Pileated Woodpecker, 2 Killdeer, and an Eastern Kingbird
on her nest.

HUBLEY, HEGINS, & BARRY TWPS: (mw)
On 6/25 birds included Pileated Woodpecker, 4 Killdeer, 14 Eastern
Meadowlarks, 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 3 Vesper Sparrows, Savannah
Sparrow, Wild Turkey, 2 Ring-necked Pheasants, 2 Yellow Warblers,
Brown Thrasher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Grasshopper Sparrow, and
Bobolink.

PINE GROVE, WASHINGTON, & WAYNE TWPS: (mw)
On 6/26 birds included 2 Eastern Kingbirds, Yellow Warbler, Eastern
Meadowlark, and 2 Killdeer.
On 6/27 Wayne & Washington Twps. yielded 6 Killdeer, 4 Eastern
Kingbirds, Great Crested Flycatcher, Wild Turkey, 2 Baltimore Orioles,
3 Ring-necked Pheasants, Yellow Warbler, Eastern Meadowlark, 2
Eastern Bluebirds, Great Blue Heron, Least Flycatcher. and Northern
Bobwhite.

SGL-110 STONY CREEK: (tc)
On 6/26 this Berks County gameland area near Auburn yielded Great
Blue Heron, Eastern Screech-Owl, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Hairy
Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Wood-
Pewee, Eastern Phoebe, Great Crested Flycatcher, Red-eyed Vireo,
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Wood Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, Blue-winged
Warbler, Northern Parula, Pine Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Black-and-
white Warbler, American Redstart, Worm-eating Warbler, Ovenbird, Louisiana Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Hooded Warbler, Scarlet
Tanager, and Field Sparrow.

TUMBLING RUN WATERSHED: (tc)
On 6/27 this watershed held 17 species of wood warblers, some of which
were Blue-winged Warbler, Northern Parula, Chestnut-sided Warbler,
Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler,
Pine Warbler, Prairie Warbler, American Redstart, Worm-eating Warbler,
Louisiana Waterthrush, Hooded Warbler, and Canada Warbler. Some of
the other 60 species were Great Blue Heron, Pileated Woodpecker,
Alder Flycatcher, Blue-headed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Great
Crested Flycatcher, and Eastern Kingbird.

On 6/16 birds included Great Blue Heron, Red-eyed Vireo, Great Crested
Flycatcher, Cedar Waxwing, Belted Kingfisher, Wood Duck, Baltimore
Oriole, Chipping Sparrow, and Indigo Bunting.

HIDDEN VALLEY: (aml)
Birds for the week included Indigo Bunting, Great Crested Flycatcher,
Common Yellowthroat, nesting Tree Swallows, Barn Swallow, Cliff
Swallow, Northern Flicker, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk,
American Kestrel, Eastern Bluebird, nesting Brown Thrashers, Northern
Mockingbird, Gray Catbird, and Cedar Waxwings.

NEW RINGGOLD: (dw)
On 6/12 an Osprey was seen harassing a juvenile Bald Eagle while both
birds were apparently migrating along the Little Schuylkill River. The eagle
was reported to be a 2-3 year old bird.

MARLIN: (bc)
On 6/15 a pair of breeding Northern Rough-winged Swallows were seen
near the parking lot of the Honeywell Plant. A pair of Killdeer were also
seen in their back parking lot.

COAL MOUNTAIN ROAD: (cl)
This location near Deer Lake yielded these birds for the week: Carolina
Wren, 2 Pileated Woodpeckers, Chickadee species, House Wren, Blue
Jay, Eastern Phoebe, Eastern Bluebird, Ruby-throated Hummingbird,
Chipping Sparrow, and Northern Cardinal.

OWL CREEK WATERSHED: (dk)
On 6/17 there were 2 Whip-poor-wills heard calling, as well as a number
of Veeries vocalizing.

KELAYRES GRASSLANDS: (johd,jond)
On 6/14 birds included nesting Tree Swallows, an active Bank Swallow
colony, Barn Swallows, 5 Horned Larks, over 20 Grasshopper Sparrows,
Indigo Bunting, Field Sparrow, Brown-headed Cowbird, Northern Flicker,
American Goldfinch, European Starling, Red-winged Blackbird, Cedar
Waxwing, and American Robin.

OUTWOOD & BEUCHLER: (dk)
On 6/15 birds near this Lebanon Reservoir farmland included Black-billed
Cuckoo carrying food, Barn Swallows and Tree Swallows feeding young,
Green Heron, Pine Warbler, Eastern Meadowlark, American Kestrel,
Baltimore Oriole, 3 Bobolinks, 3 Grasshopper Sparrows, Northern
Mockingbird feeding young, Yellow Warbler, Chipping Sparrow feeding
young, Brown Thrasher, Eastern Kingbird, Eastern Bluebird fledglings,
Red-winged Blackbird carrying food, and Northern Rough-winged Swallow.

STILL CREEK RESERVOIR: (dk)
On 6/19 birds included Blackburnian Warbler feeding young, an agitated
Hairy Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch with young, Blue-headed
Vireo carrying food, a very agitated Canada Warbler, Common Yellow-
throat fledglings, and an agitated pair of Yellow-rumped Warbler, with the
female carrying food. Other birds included 2 Purple Finches, a calling
Common Loon, 6 Pine Warblers, 2 Hairy Woodpecker territories, Yellow-
billed Cuckoo, 7 Blackburnian Warblers including young, 2 Yellow-rumped
Warblers, 6 Blue-headed Vireos, 3 singing Brown Creepers, 2 Black-
throated Blue Warblers, Canada Warbler, 2 singing Magnolia Warblers,
Golden-crowned Kinglet calling, Great Crested Flycatcher, 4 Hermit
Thrushes, and a hooting Great Horned Owl.

LANDINGVILLE DAM & MARSH: (tc)
On 6/20 highlights of 68 species included Great Blue Heron, Green
Heron, Wood Duck, juvenile Bald Eagle, Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-
billed Cuckoo, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Red-bellied Woodpecker,
Hairy Woodpecker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Willow Flycatcher, Great
Crested Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird, Yellow-throated Vireo, Warbling
Vireo, Bank Swallow colony, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Cedar Waxwing,
Blue-winged Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Prairie Warbler, American Red-
start, Yellow-breasted Chat, Scarlet Tanager, Swamp Sparrow, and

On 6/19 highlights included 3 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 5 Eastern Wood-
Pewees, Great Crested Flycatcher, 24 Red-eyed Vireos, Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher, 4 Wood Thrushes, 10 Cedar Waxwings, 9 Chestnut-
sided Warblers, nesting Black-and-white Warblers, 76 Ovenbirds,
41 Common Yellowthroats, 13 Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted
Grosbeak, 22 Indigo Buntings, and 5 Brown-headed Cowbirds.

Northern Flicker, Eastern Towhee, Song Sparrow, Northern Cardinal,

WEST PENN TWP. - CLAMTOWN: (bb)
Birds for the week included Wood Thrush with 4 young, White-breasted
Nuthatches (abandoned nest cavity), Red-bellied Woodpeckers with 3
young, a pair of Purple Finches, American Goldfinches, Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds, Veeries, Ovenbirds, Ruffed Grouse, Eastern Bluebirds,
Northern Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Gray Catbirds, Common Grackles,
and a Bear who is raiding feeders and dining on suet.

SHARTLESVILLE - Berks County: (dkn,johd,jond,bk,aml,fl,et al.)
The Red-necked Phalarope at the Shartlesville pond was observed by
numerous Schuylkill County birders, and was last seen there on 6/8.

RINGTOWN: (mg)
Cedar Waxwings have been reported as nesting at the same location
for the second straight year.

NEW RINGGOLD area: (ddol,ld)
Cedar Waxwings have also been reported from a location north of this
location.

LUTZ VALLEY ROAD - Wayne Twp: (bc,cc)
On 6/7 a young Great Horned Owl was heard calling, and a raccoon
was seen munching on old hamburger buns at a barbecue pit.

SGL-222 to DEVIL'S HOLE: (tc)
On 6/11 some late evening birds included Canada Warbler, Hooded
Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow Warbler,
Veery, Wood Thrush, Ovenbird, Scarlet Tanager, Black-throated Green
Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, Great Crested Flycatcher, and Eastern
Wood-Pewee.

OWL CREEK WATERSHED: (dkr)
On 6/8 bird highlights were Pine Warbler, Brown Creeper, Red-breasted
Nuthatch, Northern Parula, Blackburnian Warbler, Black-throated Blue
Warbler, Great Crested Flycatcher, Blue-headed Vireo, Golden-crowned
Kinglet, Wood Duck, Eastern Phoebe, Hooded Warbler, Veery, and
Canada Warbler.

STILL CREEK RESERVOIR: (dkr)
Birds on 6/8 included Alder Flycatcher, and Pine Warbler.

RATTLING RUN: (dkr)
On 6/9 birds included Northern Parula, 4 Wood Thrushes, Rose-breasted
Grosbeak, 4 Worm-eating Warblers, 2 Acadian Flycatchers, Louisiana
Waterthrush, Winter Wren, Veery, and Black-throated Green Warbler.

MOLINO RAILROAD AREA: (dkr)
On 6/9 birds included Black-billed Cuckoo, Field Sparrow, Chestnut-
sided Warbler, American Redstart, Blue-winged Warbler, 2 Willow
Flycatchers, Alder Flycatcher, and 2 White-eyed Vireos.

SCHUYLKILL RIVER MOLINO AREA: (dkr)
On 6/9 birds included Wood Thrush, 4 Worm-eating Warblers, Belted
Kingfisher, Louisiana Waterthrush, Great Crested Flycatcher, Baltimore
Oriole, and Acadian Flycatcher.

LEBANON RESERVOIR, FISHING CREEK, DE HAAS RUN: (dkr)
On 6/13 birds included an agressive Yellow-throated Vireo, a singing
White-throated Sparrow, female Common Merganser, Northern Parula,
3 Pileated Woodpeckers, 2 Hairy Woodpeckers, Red-shouldered Hawk,
4 Blue-headed Vireos, Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Canada Warbler, 6 Hooded Warblers, 5 Black-throated Blue Warblers,
Barred Owl, 2 Swamp Sparrows, 10 Acadian Flycatchers, and Worm-
eating Warbler carrying food for young.

TUMBLING RUN WATERSHED: (tc)
On 6/13 birds included Canada Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Blackburnian
Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Prairie Warbler,
Ovenbird, American Redstart, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-and
white Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Louisiana Waterthrush, Wood Thrush, Veery,
Scarlet Tanager, Brown Creeper, Northern Parula, Eastern Towhee, Field
Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Song Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole, Carolina
Wren, House Wren, Pileated Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Downy
Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Wood Duck,
Mallard, Acadian Flycatcher, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Blue-headed Vireo,
Gray Catbird, White-breasted Nuthatch, Tufted Titmouse, Red-eyed
Vireo, and Black-capped Chickadee.

TAMAQUA area: (johd, jond)
On 6/9 there were 2 Black Vultures seen between Tamaqua & McAdoo.
On 6/10 a Bald Eagle was seen flying over Confetti's Restaurant.

McADOO HOLLOW: (johd,jond)
On 6/11 there was a confirmed nesting Black-billed Cuckoo. Other birds
were Hairy Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Scarlet Tanager, Worm-
eating Warbler, Ovenbird, Black-and-white Warbler, Hermit Thrush, Red-
eyed Vireo, Black-capped Chickadee, Pileated Woodpecker, Common
Grackle, Eastern Wood-Pewee, and American Robin.
On 6/13 at this location there was a confirmed nesting Scarlet Tanager
and Ovenbird. Other birds included Black-throated Blue Warbler, White-
breasted Nuthatch, Blue Jay, Hairy Woodpecker, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher,
Black-and-white Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, and American Robin.
